Detailed Walkthrough

Taminwe the Spy

At the Red Dragon Club, after you've spoken to the staff, you meet an Altmer who introduces herself as Taminwe. She's one of Ocato's spies, and she'll be working with you to investigate a rumored claimant to the Dragon Throne. Not much is known about him yet, but the trail starts in Leyawiin, and Countess Alessia Caro seems to be involved. You go down to Leyawiin and talk to the beggars, who give you a lead to a stranger in the castle, and talk of a "cousin of the Emperor" who's due to visit from Senchal. If your disposition with the beggars isn't high enough, you may have to spend some gold.

Leyawiin

While Taminwe takes a boat to Senchal to go and investigate the pretender, you enter the castle. Down in the servants' quarters, you come across a man forging a document that declares the legitimacy of another son of Pelagius IV. This man would be nearly as old as Uriel VII, so he's unlikely to still be alive, but the document would be used to support the claim of his son or grandson. Taminwe will be finding out which it is, so pick up the document and seal to show her when she returns.

You meet her at the Five Claws Lodge when she returns, a couple of days later, from Senchal.

Comparing Notes

Taminwe tells you that the pretender was the grandson of the late Cassynder, whose only connection to the Septims was being named after one. A few drinks and a romp between the sheets loosened his tongue enough to find that he was being coached for the part by his uncle, who had married a cousin of Alessia Caro. Unfortunately, she had not been able to persue the uncle, as her mark had warned him as soon as he realised what he'd told her, and the older man had fled.

You show her the forged document and the fake seal. After examining the seal carefully, she forms the opinion that was probably copied from an impression on a genuine document. There are many still in existence from Pelagius' time, such as treaties with other kingdoms. That could lead anywhere in Tamriel.

However, the current investigation is over, and there's one less candidate for the succession.

10 Taminwe told me that there are rumors of problems in Leyawiin, and Ocato would like us to investigate. I should let her know when I have the time to travel down there with her.
20 (The player has asked Taminwe to follow him/her to Leyawiin)
30 One of the beggars in Leyawiin told us that Countess Alessia Caro was going to have her cousin (who lives in Senchal) become the next Emperor. There was also something about a document that needs more investigation. Taminwe and I need to decide what to do next.
40 Taminwe is going to Senchal to look for the cousin. Meanwhile I'm going to see if I can find the stranger in the castle. We'll meet back at the Five Claws Lodge when she gets back in a couple of days.
50 I found the stranger in the servants quarters and he attacked me. He was obviously a forger, as I found an unfinished document in his room, and a fake Imperial Seal to go with it. I have no idea who this Cassynder Veranus is, and what relationship he has to the cousin. Maybe Taminwe will find out that part of the story.
60 Taminwe should be back by now. I'd better go look for her at the Five Claws Lodge.
70 Taminwe has arrived back from Senchal. Time to compare notes.
80 0Yes It looks like we've put an end to this scheme. We didn't find any direct proof that Countess Alessia Caro was involved. It's just the word of a beggar against hers. And the uncle got away before Taminwe could find him. We'll go back to the city and Taminwe will update the Elder Council on what we know.
